What a self-directed IRA custodian does—and what investors should not assume the custodian has vetted.
All IRAs are held by custodians, and self-directed custodians allow a broader range of assets than many conventional IRA providers. Their role is administrative; it should not be confused with independent investment due diligence.
Investor.gov warns that fraudsters may falsely imply that a self-directed IRA custodian has investigated or validated an investment. Do your own due diligence.
