Gold IRA Fees Explained
Separate dealer pricing, IRA administration, storage, and transaction costs before comparing Gold IRA providers.
There is no single universal “Gold IRA fee.” A useful comparison separates the dealer's economics from the custodian and storage costs.
| Cost bucket | Who may charge it | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Metal purchase spread | Dealer | What is the buy price and what would you pay to repurchase the same item today? |
| Account setup/admin | Custodian | Flat or percentage-based? Is there a setup fee? |
| Storage | Depository/custody arrangement | Annual cost? Segregated or non-segregated? |
| Transactions/distributions | Custodian or dealer | Any wire, sale, shipping, closing, or termination fees? |
Investor.gov notes that self-directed IRA fees can be significantly higher than those in other investment accounts and may include opening, annual, administrative, transaction and asset-specific fees.
